While it can be difficult to discuss abuse, it is important to understand how to recognise and respond appropriately if there is concern for a child or young person who is at risk. In this module will develop your understanding of child safe behaviours and the legal compliance aspects of safeguarding.

This module consists of four chapters which will further your understanding of:
  • types of harm to children and young people, how to recognise and respond appropriately.
  • the legal compliance aspects of safeguarding, including the Risk of Significant Harm, NSW Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998 and the Reportable Conduct Scheme (NSW Children's Guardian Act 2019).

This is the second module in the Mandatory Safeguarding Induction Program. It is designed to follow 'Understanding Safeguarding and the Child Safe Standards'.

This module will provide information on the legal compliance aspects of safeguarding, including the Risk of Significant Harm, NSW Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998 and the Reportable Conduct Scheme (NSW Children's Guardian Act 2019). Child Safe behaviours will be explained as well as types of harm, how to recognise them and how to respond appropriately. Finally, the concept of 'grooming' and how to respond if you are concerned about any other persons behaviour is also included.
